Book reveiw for Howl's Moving Castle

Imagine wizards, witches, talking fires, and magic castles. That's exactly what you'll get in this novel, but probably not in the way most people would expect. The story to say the least is "enchanting" No pun intended. It's a good book to read on a sunny day, you'll find yourself wrapped up in the quest but not overly so. The actions and reactions of most throughout the book are plausible and realistic, unlike a lot of heroic books you might read today. You'll be surprised at what a homey story that takes place given the circumstances of the conflict. Personally, the end is a little anticlimactic, though given the pace of the book, it's a fitting end.

Published in 1986 Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones, is a fictional fantasy book that takes place in a strange second dimension. Follow Sophie, in her struggles to break a curse set upon her by the Wicked Witch of the Waste. Seeking help from the great wizard Howl, dealing with his antics and strange ways soon becomes more of a hindrance than the awful curse itself. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good novel. I give Howl's Moving Castle three out of five Bookmarks.

Guest Blog!!

Drum roll please!!! Today's post is, you guessed it, a guest blog. What is that you might ask? Basically fellow blogger Xochitl Cabrera, from Facial Expressions for the World, will take command of this blog post, when I finish up this intro. If you guessed that she would talk about her subject, you are sadly mistaken. If you figured she would be reviewing some form of reading material, then congrats! The literature she will be reviewing is a little horror comic called Enigma of Amigara Fault, by Junji Ito.




I chose to do my guest post on Kinsley's Blog about book reviews because she told me about this super creepy comic and suggested I should read it. After reading the comic, I was creeped out and decided to write about what I thought about the comic. The comic I read is a Japanese comic called Enigma of Amigara Fault by Juni Ito. Enigma of Amigara Fault is a horror comic about a earthquake that leaves people like shapes on mountains. There is only one of a kind so not just any random person can go into a hole. The holes leave people striking with fear and curiosity and somewhat hypnotizes them and forces them to find their hole. Once you find your hole you become attached to it and without knowing end up going in it. The weird thing is that there is no way out. Or at least that is what the people think. It is not until towards the end of the comic that they find a way out of the holes. This is where it gets weird. The people that came out of the holes were all deformed! According to a legend, the holes were made to get people to pay for their sins! They were paying by becoming nasty looking monsters that society would reject. After reading this comic I decided that I would not go hiking alone. EVER. Any ways, even though this comic was creepy and weird and somewhat nasty, I actually enjoyed reading it and recommend others to read it as well. Also the pictures shown on the comic are really weird because it shows how monster looking the people look when they come out of their holes. Before Kinsley told me about Enigma of Amigara Fault, I could not see myself reading any comics. Especially scary ones.

Book review for The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

Okay! I'm starting out the new year with this particular book because I just got it for Christmas, it kinda goes with the January theme and I loved it.

The House of Hades, (copyright 2013) by Rick Riordan is the fourth book in  the series: The Heroes of Olympus. I suppose the overall genre of the book in my words would be a fictional modern clash of Greek and Roman mythology, all intertwined with adventure. In my opinion Rick Riordan, has mastered how to "Talk" like a teen, and still be able to keep the vocabulary P-G. The book is full of several entertaining characters, some with completely different personalities, that will make you wonder what they are going to do next. This segment of The Heroes of Olympus adventure is the best yet! For those who have read the rest of the series, Rick has made up for his last cliffhanger. I give this book an age range of 12 and over, of course depending on you specific preference of genre and writing style. For those of you who like the more complex writing style you may have a hard time getting into or enjoying this book, but if you like simpler styles and Greek and Roman Mythology this book is something to look at.

Over all I give The House of Hades four out of five Bookmarks.
